Product Description
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 PC

Amazon.com Product Description
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series.

Story
The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs.

Gameplay
The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them.

Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches.

Special Ops Co-op Mode
Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality.

Key Game Features

  • Challenging Multiplayer ModesModern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
  • Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
  • An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
  • The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
  • Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
  • Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
  • New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
  • New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
  • New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

Could not use the game - it was used and the product code had been used and I could not load the game.

3 out of 5 stars Decent enough but wait for Black Ops   August 6, 2010
Marc (Utah USA)
This has been a fun game although the single player mode and the co-op mode are not as difficult as I thought they would be. I originally beat the single player mode on one of the easier settings. Then after having earned veteran status on all SpecOps missions I went back and beat single player mode on the hardest level. So although these modes were entertaining I wish they had been a little more difficult.

Multi-player mode was a lot of fun when I first received the game back in February. I definitely have my complaints:

--There is no dedicated server which can lead to a lot of host changing which is just annoying
--There are a lot more hackers now than when I first started playing but there is no way to kick the hackers
--I can't choose the server to play on and I have to let their system match me to a game. This has been a problem because even after entering and leaving a game because of hackers I have had it take me back to the exact same server. In addition, when I play with a friend if we lose connection to a server we have to reconnect to play together which gets old after a while.

Overall I have enjoyed the game but I am excited for Black Ops and it really made me wish I had a console to play on rather than on my PC. If you are just looking to buy I would suggest waiting until Black Ops comes out.

1 out of 5 stars Think 2 or 3 times before buying any Steam required games like MW2. You're not getting what you should be getting.   August 1, 2010

Dear Steam and Valve,

My xx year old son's Steam password was stolen by his cousin's punk teenage friend who in turn logged in to my son's Steam account, downloaded, and played my son's MW2 on a different computer. Not surprising, the punk ruined my son's VAC status, and now my son can no longer play MW2 Multiplayer. As soon as I found out my son's Steam account's password was stolen, I changed it, so I don't think anyone else is using my son's Steam account now, but the VAC ban remains.

Is there anyway I can pay a reasonable fee or penalty charge to get my son's Steam account back to good standing with VAC please? I do not want to have to create another Steam account for my son to play MW2 Multiplayer, since he has so many Steam games on his existing account, and it will be difficult for him to log-in back and forth between Steam accounts, given that he is x years old. If there is not an explicit charge to get him unbanned, can I purchase $XX? worth of Steam games to get the ban lifted, please?

The external IP Address for my son's computer is xx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxxxxxxxx.xxxxx.xxxxxxxx.com = xxxx, xx). No other computer is authorized to be using his Steam account. I had heard that the punk lives in xxx xxxx or some other state, so I'm guessing that your records will show that the ban occurred from another computer. If this is not the case, then please let me know so I can do whatever it takes to clean my son's computer.

My son's Steam account is xxxxxxxxx.

Thank you very much for considering this plea.

Sincerely,

xxxxx xxxxxxxxxxx

Hello xxxxxxx,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Our system indicates that this account has been permanently banned by the Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) from Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer for use of cheats or other unauthorized modifications to the game (such as a console unlocker, etc.).

We will not disclose the cheats which were detected, nor will we provide the date and time the infraction took place. We have confirmed that the ban on the account was applied legitimately and it cannot be removed.

This ban does not affect other titles on the account.

The account may still be used to play the single-player campaign and Spec Ops missions.

We cannot move game subscriptions from accounts which have been banned by VAC.

If you choose to purchase a new copy of this game, please create a new Steam account to register the game to. Remove all cheats from your system before you install (if you do not know where the cheats were installed, you may want to consider reformatting the machine and starting over with a new installation of your operating system).

For more information on Valve's policies, please see the Steam Subscriber Agreement and the Rules of Steam Online Conduct:

I was hoping for something other than an automated reply, directed at a human customer and not a robot. That isn't even a copy and paste reply. I will start moving as many of my future purchases away from Steam (and Steam required games) as I can, even if it costs me more money. And, as my Steam account history shows, that's a lot of gaming money for someone with 2 young sons.

2 out of 5 stars Could be fun, but not.   July 31, 2010

I have had this game since the day they release it. I bought this game mostly for the sake of the single player. It was an expensive rip off, and it still is.

PROS: Single Player - The best about this game. Nothing else. Multiplayer's killcams.

CONS: Multiplayer - First, it was fun and all because no one was hacking and everyone was new and honest to the community. Then, hackers started to show up which sabotaged the fun of this game. Now, hackers are everywhere. You are going to expect a hacker or hackers in probably 7/10 games. You can easily identify who is hacking with one or a few killcams. If you are an experience PC gamer, it is even easier to spot who is hacking WITHOUT killcams (i.e. in hardcore modes). Other than hackers, connections are always iffy. IW is really bad. There are more, but I am just too tried to care anymore.

All in all, if you are deciding whether you want to get this game as of this moment, please don't. Save your money and wait for Call of Duty Black Ops that is coming out in November. I can't say it will be a better game but so far it looks promising to me from reviewers.

So i bought the game for pc, it was really expensive [...] bucks. However the controls are alot more precise/accurate.The multiplayer is is good not as great as xbox. The major thing is hackers. I somehow was transferred to some hacked server and my character went from lvl 1 to 70, its retarded. I mean I prefer earning my levels not some reject hacker giving it to me. So basically I payed 60$ for a non-hack free game which in my opinion is ridiculous.Going back to xbox. I can see why so my people are angry, as well they should.
